After what was easily one of the wettest and from a safety point of view the worst managed events I have been to in many years the Fauldsport crew came away still comfortably leading the way in Caterham Roadsports A.
Lewis Hopkins drove perfectly to my advise and with his own touches of natural talent to secure pole position in torrential rain by over 1 second. James Sharrock lined up next to him on the grid from Gary Halcrow.
Gary once again won both races using his significant experience advantage over Lewis in passing traffic. However, Lewis demonstrated he is a true challenger to Gary by leading until the last lap of race two when a back marker drove him onto the grass giving Gary a chance to close the gap and make his move. I suspect we will have some great battles between these two although I have no doubt Lewis is the faster of the pair.
James Sharrock had some bad luck on the opening laps of both races dropping down the field. His come back drives meant he is in a strong 3rd overall in the championship so still very much in contention. JJ O’Malley’s first race was very disappointing, but his second race showed a return to form and he rose from 23rd to 5th. Sadly the pressure got to much and he spun off dropping down to 12th.
Paul Stortons season hit an all time low when he hit a spinning car destroying the front right corner in race one. In car footage confirmed he had nowhere to go and was desperately unlucky.
Adam Ferrenczi had another good weekend gaining more race experience and proving Croft was no fluke. He crashed out of 7th place in race one and starting from the very last grid slot in race two came home to finish in an impressive 6th overall.
In C400’s Rachel Green had an unfortunate off which would have been insignificant had a stationary car not been left in a dangerous position. She collected this car and destroyed her own. I hope she can find the funding to rebuild it and continue with the series.
Cadwell on the 22nd June is going to be a great weekends racing. I can’t wait.
